In the early '90's, Crumb's close friend told him a story of how she skipped church one summer's day back in 1968 when she was 15 years old. As she laid in a field nearby, feeling the sun and smelling the grass, she could hear the congregation singing hymns. Crumb drew her story in his sketchbook in 1993. When Alex proposed it as the next etching edition, Crumb wanted to add some kind of narrative, giving the viewer the background to the story he illustrated as only Crumb can. He reworked the image (of course) and added a little narrative specifically for this etching.
rcrumb.com is proud to release the new She Skipped Church 40 print etching edition, each one numbered, signed and dated by R. Crumb. The white, archival Hahnemuhle paper is 11 x 11 inches. The embossment is 7 1/4 x 7 inches. The image is 7 x 6 inches. There are no custom sigs in this edition.
