Convair was purchased by General Dynamics in 1954. The Convair 880 was designed as a faster, smaller jet airliner for competition with the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8. General Dynamics produced only 65- CV-880s between 1959 and 1962. TWA and Delta Airlines were the primary U.S. carriers that used the CV-880.
