Adding new art to the ExpressoBeans database begins with the Name field. Listed below are several examples of naming conventions for various classes of artwork. This is just a small sampling of the types of artwork Expressobeans showcases. If you do not see a specific example for what you are trying to upload below, please try to search for similar items in the database and use that as a template. Having consistent naming conventions helps to standardize the site and reduce the number of duplicate entries or erroneous information.

Gigposters

The basic EB naming format for gigposters is: HEADLINING BAND CITY YEAR ARTIST

Example(s):
Spoon Portland 09 EMEK

Please do not use CAPS LOCK in any portion of the name unless that is how the band or artist identifies themselves. Do not add extraneous spaces between words.

Bandname

  • For bands whose name begins with "The" do not include "The" in the EB Title (exception - the band "The The").
Correct:
Who Dallas 06 Uncle Charlie
Incorrect:
The Who Dallas 06 Uncle Charlie
  • Please match the spelling and punctuation used by the band. Any alternate spellings should be entered as a Keyword to improve search results.
Correct:
Man or Astro-Man? Austin 96 Kuhn
Motörhead Seattle 02 Hampton
Incorrect:
Man or Astroman Austin 96 Kuhn
Motorhead Seattle 02 Hampton (although Motorhead should be utilized as a keyword)
  • In the case of multiple bands, only the headliner should be listed.
  • In rare instances when a band name is too long for the entry field, a shorter common name is typically used (example - ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead is listed as Trail of Dead)

City

  • The City in the Title should be the actual locale in which the venue is located and is listed on EB. In the case of a small town or suburb adjacent to a large city, the name of the small town or suburb should be used. The name of the large city can be added as a Keyword to improve search results. Also see the related Venue Format wiki page.
Correct:
Widespread Panic Morrison 10 Wood
Incorrect:
Widespread Panic Red Rocks 10 Wood
Widespread Panic Denver 10 Wood

Year

  • The year in the Title field should be the same year entered in the Year field, shortened to the last 2 digits. Do not use an apostrophe to indicate the shortened format.
Correct:
Spoon Portland 09 EMEK
Incorrect:
Spoon Portland '09 EMEK
Spoon Portland 2009 EMEK
  • For Gigposters, the year of the actual gig should be used.
  • If the year is unknown, please enter the best approximation and note the year as uncertain in the Notes field.

Artist

  • The Artist in the Title should be entered as the last name of the artist who created the piece.
  • If there are multiple artists, they should be entered in alphabetical order with a forward slash between them.
Example(s):
Acid Mothers Temple Austin 04 Connor / Pedini
  • Common artist prefixes/suffixes should be dropped for the Name field.
Correct:
Dave Matthews Band Atlanta 10 Methane
Pearl Jam Honolulu 06 Ames
Incorrect:
Dave Matthews Band Atlanta 10 Methane Studios
Pearl Jam Honolulu 06 Ames Design

Art Prints

The basic EB naming format for Art Prints is: TITLE YEAR ARTIST

Example(s):
The Rain Had a Sound 09 McCarthy

Title

  • The Title should be the exact title of the piece as published, unless it is too lengthy for the input field.
  • If the title is too lengthy, the full title should be entered in the Notes field.
  • Unlike Gigposters, the Title field for an Art Print should contain "the" if it is part of the published title of the piece.

Year

  • The year in the Title field should be the same year entered in the Year field, shortened to the last 2 digits. Do not use an apostrophe to indicate the shortened format.
Correct:

  • If there are multiple artists, they should be entered in alphabetical order with a forward slash between them.
Example(s):
VERSUS 10 Horkey / Ryan
  • Common artist prefixes/suffixes should be dropped for the Name field.

The basic EB naming format for Handbills matches that of the Gigposter or Art Print.
