About
Attended Cal State U at Long Beach and majored in printmaking, but the constant exposure to oil based inks, paint thinner, nitric acid and solvents were terrible for my health and after six years, I dropped out with toxic and mental ruin. I thought college was a waste of time, and I hated all the "art" that I was exposed to. Except for the many semesters of life drawing which I enjoyed, I learned NOTHING. However, I'd always harbored a secret desire to draw underground comics, especially after reading ZAP in the early 70s'.
<p>
In 1984 I became motivated to draw these kinds of comics, and received early encouragement from Robert Crumb and Robert Armstrong (Mickey Rat / Couch Potatos). Started self publishing my own "mini comics", and began writing and trading with other artists who were doing the same thing. First published in anthologies such as WIMMEN'S, WEIRDO, RIP OFF REVIEW, TITS 'n' CLITS, SNARF and others. My first solo book, HOODOO, (1988) was a 32 page comic devoted to the life and writings of Zora Neale Hurston."
