Treidler's image for this poster won him $1000.00 at the time, in a contest sponsored by the War Savings Committee and the American Institute of Graphic Arts. His image beat out 2,200 entries to become the main image for the campaign to sell War Savings Stamps. The stamps were a patriotic program used by the United States Treasury to help fund participation in World War I and was Principally aimed at school-age children. Stamps were available in 25 cent and ten cent versions, and did provide interest.
