Written by Otis Adelbert Kline and published by Ace. This is the first Ace edition, F-259 from 1964 with the $.40 cover price. This edition features a cover and frontispiece by Roy G. Krenkel.

When Ace decided to reprint the fiction of ERB in the 1960's, one aspect of their marketing plan was to have Roy Krenkel illustrate them. When the time came to publish the Kline books, Planet, Prince and Port of Peril, Ace chose to use covers from Roy Krenkel, given the favorable comparisons between Burroughs's and Kline's work. Already well-known in the illustration field, Krenkel won the Hugo in 1963 for best professional artist. Along with Frank Frazetta, who Krenkel enlisted to assist with the volume of work he was receiving from Don Wollheim, Ace's science fiction and fantasy publishing was very successful, due in no small part to the appeal of the books on the newsstands and in stores.
