In 2004, Banksy printed £1 million worth of fake £10 notes that replaced the visage of Queen Elizabeth II with that of late Princess Diana. Banksy then dropped the money on crowds at the Notting Hill Carnival and at the Reading Festival.
These were produced by Banksy as part of a stencilled ATM machine piece. They were stuck on the wall and on the pavement.
However, Banksy did release a load of these at various street festivals in London.
Banksy which showcases his usual brand of anti-Establishment humor. In this case, the artist substitutes the head of the Queen of England on a series of ten pound notes for that of the late Princess Diana. The text accompanying Diana's image is changed from "I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of ten pounds" to "I promise to pay the bearer on demand the ultimate price." On the reverse of the note "Trust no one" is printed under the head of Charles Darwin.
The work is quite rare as it is one of his smallest edition sizes.
This work is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Pest Control.
