This piece was created to commemorate, to the day, the 25th anniversary of Ralph Steadman and Hunter S. Thompson's first collaboration together in which they covered the 1970 Kentucky Derby for Scanlan's magazine. This piece and The Sherriff are unusual in that they are the only examples of Steadman's 'Gonzo Art' that Thompson ever signed. Steadman's original illustration of this image first appeared on page 79 of Thompson's literary masterpiece "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas."
Five-hundred copies were hand printed by master printer Joe Petro III (Petro III Graphics - Lexington, KY) and were then signed by both Steadman and Thompson on May 6, 1995 (the 121st "Run for the Roses," i.e., the Kentucky Derby) on the trunk of 'The Shark' (Thompson's giant Cadillac convertible) at Thompson's Owl Farm in Woody Creek, CO.
