Per DS, "Red-headed Woodpeckers are woodpeckers that can be found east of the Rockies. Their numbers in recent years have been declining due to competition from more aggressive birds, such as European Starlings, and Red-bellied Woodpeckers. I was lucky enough to have one of these sharp looking birds, foraging in my yard, and was inspired to capture the beauty of its color."
