The full title/caption of this is: "You'll Come to Three Princesses, Whom You Will See Standing in the Earth Up to Their Necks, With Only Their Heads Out," is one of 25 full-colored lithographed plates from the story "The Three Princesses in the Blue Mountain / The Three Princesses of Whiteland" from Kay Nielsen’s book; "East of the Sun and West of the Moon," originally published in the UK in 1914, although the illustrations slightly predate the publication. A collection of fifteen Norwegian folk and fairy tales selected from the Asbjörnsen and Moe book, "Norske Folkeeventyr," "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" is the English incarnation of these classic stories. Several US and UK editions exist, the first printings represent the best quality lithographed images while subsequent editions in 1922 and 1977 utilize either offset-lithograph or another book printing methods.
