La Luz de Jesus is most pleased to present the paintings of Ned Baughman, who has been showing in galleries and museums since 1974. The expertly rendered paintings are reminiscent of Los Angeles and Mexico City in the 1940s but their captions reveal an even earlier connection to ancient mythology. Baughman, with his richly colored canvases, creates broad fables about what is essentially the upheaval of the New World Experience; the intermingling of cultures and agendas.
"I describe the world I see around me, a wheel of fortune of images and sensations that must be experienced layered one over the other, overlapping but not indistinguishable one from the other. I construct my paintings from delicate washes of primary colors that build gradually to embody a sensitivity and maturity in tone. As I apply one color, one texture after another, in an almost ritualistic way it becomes the reliving and understanding of the vision."
