The Invisible Circus, held 24 February 1967 in the Glide Memorial Church, in San Francisco, was "A 72-hour environmental community happening" (a series of events) planned by the Diggers with the Artists' Liberation Front in reaction to the earlier January 14 Human Be-In.
Brautigan was placed in charge of an immediate and spontaneous printing effort to encourage attendees to publish whatever they liked. And they did: poems, I Ching readings, artwork, announcements, and transcripts of conversations recorded only moments earlier (Charles Perry 145).
