Was originally the centerfold for the second issue of "Ladies & Gentlemen," Erik Westra and Aesthetic Apparatus's magazine:
"Some details: The abandoned grain elevator shown in the background of the inset illustration is the Appleby elevator located in Sheridan Township, Rural Codington County, S. Dakota.* It was built by the Atlas Grain Company in 1883 and served the local farmers for 75 years, loading it's last railroad car in 1958. The birds in the foreground are a pair of male and female belted kingfishers (C. alcyon) of the family Alcedinidae, while the approaching insect is a leaf beetle, a member of the large Chrysomelidae family." - p. 24, Ladies & Gentlemen Magazine #2.
* The Appleby Atlas elevator was listed on the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places in 1990. In 1999 it was listed on preservesd.org's "threatened" list, with the note " top of elevator fell off; owner wants to demolish building."
On September 1st, 2012, the Appleby Atlas Grain Elevator was torn down
