Small print run for the Swiss magazine BlickAvedon's psychedelic photos of The Beatles taken for Stern Magazine have spawned numerous imitators, for instance Dave Matthews 4-view and Fairey's Giant Beatles.
In 1967 The Beatles Company, NEMS, contracted Richard Avedon to create the design. They were published simultaneously by Stern Magazine in Germany, Daily Express in England, and Look Magazine in the USA. The Stern and Daily Express versions measure 19 x 27", the Look versions are slightly larger, at 22.5 x 31". In the USA, you could order your set for $1.50 from a pullout tab in the magazine, and wait for them to be delivered by mail. In Germany, they were also available from newsstands, wrapped in plastic, and displayed in a special presentation stand. The banner was the same size in all 3 countries.
