Filmmaker Chris Nash has taken elements of the tried and true killer in the woods slasher, and subverted it into something totally new, as we experience horror in the woods from the point of view of its death dealer: Johnny. This film is bold and uncompromising and as much a modern cult classic as one can be. We are proud to partner with our friends at Shudder and IFC Films to produce a new poster by artist Gary Pullin.
18” x 24”, 6-color silkscreen poster. Hand numbered. Artwork by Gary Pullin.
Edition of 60.
"IN A VIOLENT NATURE struck a few chords with me.
It’s uniquely Canadian and was filmed in the wild wilderness of Northern, Ontario. As someone who has spent a bit of time in the National Parks, while beautiful and serene, the woods and ponds start to feel eerily claustrophobic, vast and dangerous.
The cinematography in this is fantastic. The hook (pun intended) is what separates this slasher from all others as the film is entirely shot from the Johnny’s (the slasher) point of view. The death scenes equally as inventive with some of the most over-the-top special effects ever seen, lovingly shot in a Lucio Fulci-esque way as the camera stays fixed and never flinches.
Finally, the vintage fireman's mask Johnny adorns is a fascinating piece of hardware rife with horror imagery. Its caged eyes are cold and indifferent as he exacts his revenge on unhappy campers.
I hope fellow fans of this Canadian campfire tale will agree it's destined to become a cult classic and will want to hang these in their cabins." -- Gary Pullin
