I humbly present “Headhunter” - multicolor letterpress/woodcut, 16”x21” on Arches 88 paper stock. Numbered, titled, signed and embossed. Sepia edition of 100, Blue edition of 35 both available at my Nov. 16th Open Studio.
I am a collector, it’s an affliction I’ve dealt with my entire life. I suspect many of you out there may relate.
For me it began with things like HeMan, Transformers and Star Wars toys as a child. I wanted, dare I say NEEDED them all. My poor parents, I’m so sorry for any and all tantrums in the mall or ToysR Us.
Things progressed into collecting tapes, ahh chasing bootleg tapes… those were the days. Again, never enough. Then the posters, yes it was collecting concert posters that pushed me into actually making them. Vinyl records followed in the music theme, that’s one I’ve been actively suppressing recently with mixed results.
That leaves the skulls, another collection that dates back to my childhood. I don’t know what my utter fascination is with skulls, but I love them. It’s not a death thing, quite the opposite actually. I see them as a celebration of natures wonder and glory, I cherish them, I respect them.
So here I present “Headhunter”, what is essentially an homage to that collectors spirit that keeps us on the hunt for the next white whale. It’s also a reminder to take a break every once in a while. Surround yourself with your spoils, sit back, relax and enjoy your collection. After all, life is short and you can’t take it with you…
