"Kinda took a wild swing on this one, so hopefully the fans dig it. I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go with it, but the biggest feedback that I got from last year’s DMB poster was that fans liked that it was more light hearted and a little silly, so I knew I wanted to continue in that vein. I also knew I had to work in references to Greenville and the surrounding areas. For last years poster I illustrated a bunch of odd roadside attractions in NJ, so for this one I wanted to do something different. After researching the city, I found out that it has an awesome waterfall park right in the heart of it, along with one of the US’s biggest collections of Jasper Johns art. I also found that they had some pretty fun cryptids in the area, my favorite being the Lizard Man of Bishopville. He’s rumored to steal car parts off of unsuspecting victims cars, then take them back to his swamp to eat later on. That gave me the idea to do something inspired by Rat Fink and the packaging for these model kits from the 60’s that I collect called Weird-Ohs. I thought it’d be cool to have the Lizard Man speeding through Falls Park with a trunk full of stolen DMB equipment, in a rat rod boat made up of car parts and other random things. There’s also a nod to The Button Man of Bishopville in there, along with a bunch of other Easter eggs (the last slide is a shot of the mood board I’d put together at the beginning of the job where you can see a lot of my references).
