“A client recently commissioned me to create a Geisha inspired painting for his private collection. It was a joy to paint and because of the extremely positive reaction from my community I’ve decided to make a small edition available to the public.

I first visited Tokyo in 2004 to see my Uncle Rabindra, an artist who moved there in the 1980’s. He was recovering from Cancer, but took me all over Tokyo and taught me so much about what it’s like to have a career in the arts in Japan. I photographed everything! Kimonos, street signs, advertising, toys, graffiti, it was all beautiful to me and it felt like another planet. I’ve been back since many times and my new art print titled ‘Kabukicho’ features much of the patterns and imagery I photographed myself while walking the streets of Tokyo. This edition is a love letter to those streets and the precious times I spent there with my dear uncle Binda - my first role model as an artist!”
