A rare poster for the first ever Black Sabbath concert in the United States, October 30th, 1971 at Glassboro State (N.J.) for the Paranoid Tour. The poster features a primitive drawing, made by the promoter's sister and lists Black Sabbath, Haystacks Balboa. Esby Gym-8 pm, $1.50-$2.50. This concert is not only notable for being the first Sabbath concert in the U.S., but also for blacking out Glassboro State and parts of the surrounding towns. Arriving late for the gig, the Black Sabbath roadies jammed their European only equipment into United States electrical sockets. Halfway through the opening song, the power blew, ending the show and descending Glassboro into darkness. Sabbath eventually made up the date with a show at Montclair State at the tail end of the tour.Black Sabbath’s first American concert
Glassboro State College is now named Rowan University.
