Our new sculpture collaboration with Erik Foss was born from the apex of American adventure and process-driven path to completion. The concept began in 2012, when Foss, Zak Williams and Alex Mallick were discussing the curatorial vision for an exhibition that would incorporate cartoons in sculpture. Before it came to fruition, the project was put on hold. In the eight years that followed American Sculpture #2's initial conception, the country's obsession with media-enhanced violence has unwavered. Foss depicts the inherent sadism found in nostalgic childhood cartoons through a toppling mass of American-made symbols, exploring pop culture history through a perverse filter.
