"This was one of those rare drawings that emerged fairly effortlessly. Like all my favourite works, it was never entirely clear why I felt so compelled to draw it. In a way I wanted to figure out who this person was that I was drawing. The aim was to capture a quiet moment of repose, sat in the soft daylight by an open window."
