Promoted as the "Punk Woodstock" and "New Wave Woodstock", the event held at a race track 40 miles east of Toronto drew almost 100,000 people from near and far in Canada as well as Americans as distant as Boston, New York City, and Chicago.
The Clash were originally booked, and were on the poster, but cancelled or possibly were held up at the border by customs. Elvis Costello and the Attractions effectively became the headliner performing their only 1980 live concert in North America, in addition to The Pretenders, Talking Heads, The B-52's, Rockpile with Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe, and local Ontario band The Kings. Others not on the poster included The Rumour (without Graham Parker just after he had gone solo), Holly and the Italians, Teenage Head, BB Gabor, and Vladymir Rogov with ARKITEX.
