Shang and TSG wish all our friends all the best as we enter the Year of the Tiger. The Tiger zodiac sign is a symbol of strength and braveness in vanquishing evil. It is is therefore fitting that the first print release of the Chinese New Year touches on themes of alignment, protection, strength, and bravery.
The main edition of Peace Keepers depicts two owls, their wings perfectly balanced and enveloping a distant home. Both owls, channeling their associated protective, masculine Yang energy, stare down a woman, whose reaction is left to the viewer to surmise.
In the variant, entitled Clear Skies, the home that centers the main edition is obscured by wings unfurling from a single owl like a bouquet. Chinese superstition charges owls with protecting homes from the elements. In this image, the owl itself conceals the home and creates the storm. And the woman, the chaotic and destructive Yin energy- she remains.
The duality of Yin and Yang both oppose and compliment each other- they combine as Qi, the energy in everything. We hope this New Year grants you this precise energy, alignment, and balance, and that you move through it with intention and love.
