A few years back I was commissioned by the Jerry Garcia Estate to create a visual representation of the song “Palm Sunday”. It’s a short little tune but the lyrics paint a beautiful landscape of a white river and red mountains. I instantly knew I wanted to capture that landscape as a reflection in Jerry’s iconic aviator glasses and this was my first attempt at doing so. The Estate asked for more of a literal portrait, hence the “Palm Sunday” we all know and love. I did try a print edition of this version a few years back but I was just starting to dabble in photopolymer plates and wasn’t happy with the results. So this image sat in the archive until I was given a little reminder that it existed. I totally reworked the separations for printing incorporating everything we’ve learned since that first attempt, the results were night and day. I’m very pleased this much more nuanced version is finally seeing the light of day. Enjoy
