"It is an honor and pleasure to illustrate 'Black Muddy River' as a screen printed poster. 'Black Muddy River' was one of Jerry Garcia's last songs performed in Chicago on July 9th, 1995 leaving a handprint on all our hearts forever.
I chose to use 8 colors with the gold foil paper also serving as a 9th color. Included in the 8 colors is a decorative underprinted border of roses and wagon wheels printed black on black — simplistic yet striking. This technique and imagery is in ways is a visual lament I was inspired as a tribute to the soulfulness of the performance.
Black muddy river, deep and wide pouring through Jerry's hands and guitar, ascending for us all. Transcending as spirit, angelic and loving.
