"The artworks shows Ki-woo holding the scholar stone on his arms. The stone is a very important and symbolic element in the movie, given in the very first part of the movie by a friend of Ki woo, as a present for him an his family. Ki-woo’s friend says about the stone that " is said to bring material wealth to families." The movie shows and compares two very different social classes: the poor one, who lives in the suburbs/slum, in the lower part of the city (Ki woo’s family lives almost underground) and the rich one who lives uptown, in the upper part of the city. The whole movie shows Ki-woo’s family going continuously up and down, from the slum to the top of the city, where the rich family lives, trying to put into effect their plan to occupy the rich family house. The plot twist comes when they find out that there is a poor man who lives under the house ( literally downstairs) in a secret room. Stairs are always present, in every part of the movie and, as the scholar stone, are very symbolic too. When everything is falling apart Ki-woo tries to fix everything starting from where he thinks it all started. He always brings the stone with him until he tries to offer it as a present to the poor man who lives downstairs under the house, but this one almost kills him with the stone itself."
