Bombs, 2019
Offset lithograph
72 × 48 in
182.9 × 121.9 cm
Edition of 500
Internationally renowned artist and activist Ai Weiwei has created the limited-edition print Bombs, on sale now exclusively at kemperartmuseumshop.com.
This dramatic, large-scale print is a compilation of 3-D renderings of 50 conventional weapons and weapons of mass destruction developed by a number of countries. The bombs are arranged chronologically, from a 1911 grenade to a 2019 guided nuclear missile. The work is the latest in the artist’s ongoing investigation of the global refugee crisis and armed conflicts across the world.
Bombs first appeared as a monumental site-specific installation in the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum’s 2019 exhibition Ai Weiwei: Bare Life. “The hyperrealistic images have a seductive physical beauty that belies their appalling and frightening truth,” says Sabine Eckmann, the William T. Kemper Director and Chief Curator of the Museum.
This new artwork, a limited edition of 500 prints, by one of today’s most important artists and humanitarian voices, is available for $750 plus shipping and handling at kemperartmuseumshop.com.
