Escif. 2021

After a year locked up in his studio, Escif returns to Paris to work in one of the most emblematic art printers in Europe: Idem prints.

Located in the Parisian neighborhood of Montparnasse and built in 1881 by the printer Emile Dufré. In 1976 it passed into the hands of Fernand Mourlot and took the name of Mourlot Printing, welcoming artists such as Matisse, Picasso, Braque, Giacometti and Calder, among other masters of 20th century painting.

In 1997 it changed its name to Idem, and today it is an emblematic space that invites creation, a meeting point for the main artists on the French and international scene.

On this occasion Escif proposes a very personal work that perfectly synthesizes his particular position: the poetic reflection of a society in crisis, drowned in excess, which devours itself. Burger King is an emblematic work that is built on a very contemporary symbolic game, in which poetry and humor are combined in a perfect balance.

On the technical side, the magic of the Marionni printing machines and the enormous experience of the Idem printers, have made possible a very careful reproduction that perfectly captures the atmospheric warmth of the original work. It took 12 colors and a team of more than 7 people to reach the subtle nuances of the watercolor technique, so necessary to reproduce this work.
