BABETTE'S FEAST by Sterling Hundley. Directed by Gabriel Axel, the film focuses on two sisters who have spent their entire lives on a desolate coast under the wrathful eye of their pastor father and his devoted congregation. After he passes away, a Parisian refugee named Babette enters the picture as their housekeeper and with her a world of fleshly pleasures like delicious food and wine. Based on a 1958 story by Isak Dinesen - a pen name of Karen Blixen - and winner of 1987’s Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, BABETTE’S FEAST is a Danish drama that deftly balances the relationships between piety, grace, and selflessness that ultimately tells a story of what it means to be an artist.
