Growing up in Austin in the late 90s led to many record store adventures digging for rare singles and any other unusual finds. Doing this not only filled my head with new music but also with art. Make no mistake I judged many an album by it's cover and so many of the records I like today I initially listened to because of the artwork. One section in particular has long fascinated me: Japanese Vinyl. I distinctly remember staring at the American Beauty import and how the psychedelic Dead lettering and kanji blurred into one harmonious image. Grateful Dead always had a robust section of rare singles and Japanese vinyl and the art here is influenced by the mystery and the beauty of those visits.
I have an idea for a companion piece and hope to begin that this year.
