“Inspired by the massive, multi-faceted presence Mr. Glover has carved out for himself in the culture in addition to the city which historically served as a haven for black creatives and expats since the (pre-Civil Rights) 1930's. The composition draws from Art Deco style to complement this and features a host of African Americans with a connection to the city that embody excellence or have contributed to culture at large such as James Baldwin, Josephine Baker, W.E.B. Dubois, Mickey Baker, and Nina Simone (to name a few). Symbolic details are packed throughout the rest of the upper partitions as a plethora of smaller silhouetted figures (many of which are lifted from Donald's iconic This Is America video) dance the night away atop the glimmering Parisian skyline.†-Miles
