"There are two elephant genera, Loxodonta (African) and Elephas (Asian). For this print ‘Elephunkt In The Wild’ I wanted to highlight two sub species from within these genera, I have painted the African savannah and the Indian. Within the patches of the elephant on the left, the African, there are references to African wax cloth. To the right, the Indian has patches of Indian cloth. The shapes of the ears are larger on the African and the Indian has a double bump on his head.

Im an 80’s baby and I can specifically remember concerns for the elephant population thirty years ago, yet today they are even worse off than before. Aside from human conflict, and drought, one of the main threats to elephants is the worldwide demand for its ivory, Britain being one of the largest purchasers of ‘ANITIQUE’ ivory. For this release there is a ‘subspecies’ edition called ‘Worth Its Weight In Gold’ all monies from this edition will be donated directly to ‘Born Free’ to continue work with Greta Francesca Lori (@theitaliopian) on the preservation of wild elephants in Ethiopia, at the ‘Babile Elephant Sanctuary’.

I have called the main print edition ‘Elephunkt In The Wild’ my play on the words F@£ked in the wild. There are three other ‘subspecies’ in the release; the flowers (a symbol for apologies and a new beginning), the feathers on the African (a symbol to fly away from trouble) with a bindi on the Indian (a symbol of faith), and the painted tusks (in response to the fake news about dying tusks pink) with blue eyes.

ONE LOVE" -- Masai
