"A long time ago, back when I was still in college, I created a small series of paintings entitled "Paintings for Children". Inspired by the "Joe Camel", Camel cigarettes, controversy, the paintings were simple animal creatures smoking cigarettes and drinking booze. The images were designed to attract the attention of children. One of those paintings was of a bunny smoking. When I browsed through the comment book after the opening, someone noted that Frank Kozik had already created a smoking rabbit. I felt that the comment was suggesting that I was a biter. However, at the time, I hadn't seen the image, but upon reading the note, I did some research and saw the image that they were refering to. Needless to say, the comment kinda got under my skin.
Since then, I've become recognized for my paintings of bears and rabbits, and Kozik has become an active contributor to the art toy phenomenon. A phenomenon many people would also lump me in with. This painting illustrates my apathy toward the art toy scene, and has personal refrences to the smoking bunny thing."
