"Sometimes I marvel at the fact that such wonderful music can come from such painful and horrific circumstances. People just can’t help but generate beautiful art. This is the first in a series called “From The Overflowingâ€, a variation of the “Opposable Thumbs†series. Each depicts a military musician. The text at the bottom of each piece comes from the Kalevala (the Finnish epic poem, their equivalent of Beowulf or the Iliad). The style of the line work is that of German Renaissance block printers like Hans Holbein and Albrecht Dürer."
