"Painting is a method that I can use to honestly express myself. I personally think that talking about my art is a bit ego maniacal. Art is something that we should connected to and enjoy equally which can't be done if I only talk about myself. My life experiences and emotions had been my main subjects. I was usually focused on my childhood memories.
The painting Shady was done in 2014 and was about my current life at the time. Love and friendship, sex and virginity that I experienced as an adult. It was an overwhelming feeling and shook my whole world whenever I was forced to face certain boundaries and freedoms of everything. I wanted to paint these experiences on my small canvas so I could remember." - Joanne Nam
