Limited edition of 50 giclee fine art prints, individually hand finished with NC paints. Printed on a gloss 300gsm archival paper with pigmented inks.
"This limited-edition series of fine art prints is based on a canvas original titled, Kunga, which means ‘peacemaker’ in Kinyarwanda, the official language of Rwanda. Each print has been individually hand-finished with NC embellishments, making every one original and unique. Each print is also finished with a hand-painted artist signature.
This artwork is a part of Sonny’s To The Bone series, made up of ten original canvases and eight hand-painted skull replicas that showcase endangered animals from around the world.
The paintings show the animals’ faces breaking away to reveal the raw skeletons underneath, symbolic of how these beautiful creatures are quickly fading away. Tribal patterns from the animals’ country of origin adorn the exposed bones, driving home the message that in losing them we’re losing a part of our heritage too.
As the largest living primate and one of our closest living relatives, gorillas are some of the most remarkable and powerful of all animals. They are inspiring not only because of their physical power, but also for their incredible intelligence and human-like behaviour. Today gorillas are classified as Endangered or Critically Endangered, depending on the subspecies and are at huge threat due to hunting, habitat loss, wildlife trade, and infectious disease."
