Aurum Wake
Always over the horizon, always further than you can walk in a day, and always beyond the falling dusk of the evening. A yearning for where you have not yet reached and will, perhaps, never reach. This hopeless destination, this dream of mist, fantasy of fog. But really, you will be more likely be discovered by archaeologists of the future, a bog-human, exhumed and examined. Where were you going? Why?

This eight-layer screen print is called 'Aurum Wake'; aurum being the latin for gold and wake being an East Anglian word used to describe an area of open water.
I've used 23.5ct gold powder from Cornelissen's in London, mixed with varnish, to create the layers between the cloud, land, mudflats and water. The original drawings were made with a brush and ink on layers of tracing paper.

A hand-pulled screen print on Fabriano Rosapina paper, which is also torn by hand. Signed and numbered by Stanley Donwood and blind-embossed with the Slowly Downward Manufactory Stamp.
