"Graffiti is a fairly new form of art and the ancient Devanagari script that I use to write Nepali in, has been around since the 17th century. Being in the 21st century right now, I figured I would bridge ten centuries worth of expression so I can share my native culture with its spiritual aspects but also have the global appeal of modern graffiti.
Children’s Art Museum of Nepal is a first of it’s kind in Nepal - a big open space for children to create art, look at art and express themselves. Art and creativity is such a luxury, limited to most Nepali children. I grew up with barely any art around me and looking back now at the fact that most children still don’t have the chance to make paint or draw...it’s ridiculous. I started The Children’s Art Museum of Nepal so children and youth can have art as part of their lives and really just be children and let their imagination go crazy." - Sneha Shrestha
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Sneha Shrestha is an artist and educator from Kathmandu, Nepal. Sneha “IMAGINE†Shrestha has established herself as Nepali artist painting in the streets meshing the Nepali alphabet with inspiration from the Boston graffiti scene. Imagine has redefined the Nepali alphabet and given it a new identity through graffiti.
Being the first to mesh American Graffiti with Nepali Alphabets, she has shown her work in several exhibitions, commissioned works and public walls around the world including Boston, Oakland, Bali, Istanbul and Miami. She has worked on projects for Trip Advisor, Red Bull and Neiman Marcus. Her works can be described as thoughtful yet irreverent pieces, marrying the beauty of an elegant script with the droll text she often incorporates into her canvases.
Sneha has been accepted to the Harvard Graduate School of Education to receive her Masters in Education.
She established Nepal’s first Children’s Art Museum to provide a creative space where children and youth can get hands-on art experience and are encouraged to express themselves creatively. Children’s Art Museum of Nepal is the first of its kind space in Nepal.
