The subject matter is inspired by the Chicago Haymarket riot of 1886. What began as an orderly protest to support the movement for an 8 hour day in the US became a tragedy as an unknown person threw a bomb into the crowd of protesters and police, provoking incredible violence. The aftermath of the event would end up with an unconstitutional trial in which 4 political activists who weren't even at the event were executed. The governor of Illinois , John Peter Altgeld would eventually pardon the convicted prisoners and (posthumously) the executed. It remains a very divisive historical event to this day.
It's acrylic, enamel, gold leaf, and some other paint on canvas. It's the last painting I did on canvas before I switched exclusively to painting on panel.
