Andrea has chosen the Kindernothilfe as her artwork's charity. Kindernothilfe works to support vulnerable and marginalized children and youth to develop their full potentials. $250 dollars from the sale of Andrea's artwork will be donated to the organization.
"In German, the word "Drachen" can mean both "dragon" and "kite". I painted this piece originally for the cover of the July/August edition of the Society of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators magazine "Kite Tales." They asked that whatever I decide to paint include a kite. I wanted to play on the double meaning in German, and also create a happy dance of many kites, to honor the very supportive community of SCBWI by suggesting that when many people come together determined to create something together wonderful things can happen, like dancing dragons in the sky"
