This edition of Hokusai's iconic image had its origins in the autumn of 2014, being offered to the backers of a Mokuhankan Kickstarter campaign being run by Dave Bull to help raise funds for the building of the new shop in the Asakusa district of Tokyo.
The print is based on a copy in the Metropolitan Museum of Art - every line carefully re-traced and then cut into hard cherry wood. It will be in the traditional O-ban size (38.5cm x 26cm) - exactly the same dimensions as the original - and will be printed on the fine mulberry paper known as Echizen hosho-shi, made specifically for this edition by Living National Treasure Mr. Ichibei Iwano, in Fukui Prefecture.
