Bumblebee’s First Kiss, 2013, depicts a little girl discovering life’s quiet
moments when time stands still and though the memory may fade, the impression is everlasting. The artist’s moniker is derived from his chosen
color palette, his bee sculptures, and the insertion of bee hives (made from
the B section of the phone book) into phone booths from and around Los Angeles. His concern with the wellbeing of the bee population is intrinsically
tied to his affection for childhood innocence and the care and concerns that young people have for nature and the world around them, a sensitivity that we tend to lose as time goes on and first experiences become rare.
