"This piece was created for my solo show, "Year of the Fire Horse" in 2014 at Foley Gallery in NY.
Separation is the theme of funeral. The black kimono is for the ceremony and the box is for the ash after cremation. The Inspiration of this piece was from my father's death. It was a while ago and wasn't the first time for me having to lose a family member, but his death gave me a special feeling. I feel now that death is more real than before, and it's everywhere. Since then I created some funeral or death theme paintings, this is the latest one from that theme." - Yumiko Kayukawa
