LADYSLIPPER ORCHID appx 10”X10”(overall) Media: Colored pencil and acrylic ink on 100# Bristol vellum Date of completion: May 2003 Class/description: Original artwork/drawing (unframed) Publishing notes: Unpublished-see below (ten portfolio copies were made at various sizes) Notes: Michael R. Everett’s inspiration for this artwork were the Art Deco jewelry designs from the 1930’s and he combines the familiar images of an orchid and a vine snake in this complex composition. The background has a mixture of gloss and matte ink textures and detailed development with both pencil and India ink can be found throughout the artwork. This design was the basis for The Dead’s 2003 Summer Tour All Access laminate. The artwork has a variable finish due to the variety of techniques used by the artist, a fascinating addition to an original artwork with such intriguing imagery. Signed in white colored pencil, “2003 M.Everett”.
