PangeaSeed and Joshua Budich are pleased to announce the tenth print release of the 2014 print suite “HOME: A Fine Art Print Suite for Threatened Ocean Habitats”. This month’s print release is helping to raise awareness for hydrothermal vents and the species that call this fragile environment “home”.

Hydrothermal vents, also in the deep sea, were unknown until about 30 years ago, when they were discovered in the submersible Alvin.
Hydrothermal vents are found at an average depth of about 7,000 feet and are essentially underwater hot springs created by tectonic plates. These huge plates in the Earth’s crust move and create cracks in the ocean floor. Ocean water enters these cracks, is heated up by the Earth’s magma, and then released through the hydrothermal vents, along with minerals such as hydrogen sulfide.
The water coming out of the vents can reach incredible temperatures of up to 750o Fahrenheit. Despite their intimidating description, hundreds of species of marine life thrive in this habitat such as giant tube worms, shrimps, clams and limpets.
