THIS HAND-EMBELLISHED WORK ON PAPER IS SIGNED ON THE BACK BY THE ARTIST AND ACCOMPANIED BY A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY THAT IS SIGNED AND NUMBERED BY EXHIBITION A.
Each piece is considered unique.
Adopting media from his large scale pieces, Davis created "The Hessian" exclusively for Exhibition A by applying decadent gold leaf to delicate hemp paper. The series of thirty-five is handmade, making each piece unique. Using materials like coffee, wine, and cigarette ash alongside more classical art materials like rabbit skin glue and oil stick, Robert Davis' large scale geometric and textural abstractions often refer to our inability to have an undiluted experience in the world, and how we attempt to clarify or obscure our perceptions by the use of substances. As a corollary, these dueling notions generate a feeling that is both alien and familiar.
