MONDO & ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE PARTNER WITH THE FILM FOUNDATION FOR CLASSIC 35MM SCREENING & POSTER SERIES
May-2-2012
Austin, TX--- Wednesday, May 2, 2012 --- Mondo & Alamo Drafthouse have partnered with The Film Foundation, Martin Scorsese’s film preservation organization, for a very special screening & poster series of eight classic films this May & June at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz in Austin, TX with beautifully restored 35mm prints. The Film Foundation is the leading non-profit organization dedicated to film preservation and has worked with the nation’s archives to save over 560 titles. The foundation provides public access to the restorations and educates future generations about film language and history. Tickets for SHADOW OF A DOUBT are now sale at http://www.drafthouse.com with remaining shows for sale soon. The Mondo screen prints for each film will be sold separately at the screenings.
The Film Foundation and its partners have provided pristine 35mm prints for King Kong, The Night of the Hunter, The Old Dark House, Stanley Kubrick’s Paths of Glory, Rashomon, Alfred Hitchcock’s Shadow of a Doubt, The Unholy Three and Film. The films will also get the Mondo treatment with an original, stunning work of art available for sale at each of the screenings with remaining prints sold online at http://www.mondotees.com.
"The Film Foundation is a vital organization for preserving our shared cinematic heritage and everyone at Mondo and Alamo Drafthouse are punch-pleased to bring more attention to it with this very special screening series. We encourage everyone to check out their "1 Dollar 1 Frame" program where anyone can provide a donation to restore a film of their choice. I immediately donated towards the restoration of All That Jazz as Bob Fosse is awesome. Hopefully we can do this again next year as there are still several reality-shattering movies The Film Foundation has restored that I'd lose a tooth for the opportunity to watch on the big screen," said Mondo’s Rob Jones.
"When the public has the opportunity to see beautiful restorations on the big screen, as they were originally meant to be seen, it strengthens the case for film preservation," said Jennifer Ahn, Managing Director of The Film Foundation. "We're so pleased to present these titles with Mondo & Alamo Drafthouse, and we're excited about sharing these iconic films with their enthusiastic audiences."
The schedule for the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz in Austin, TX and details on Mondo prints are as follows. Each film has been hand selected by Mondo’s Justin Ishmael, Mitch Putnam & Rob Jones from a list of over 560 films restored by The Film Foundation.
