This signed Pure Evil print from a limited edition of 100 is a 4 colour silkscreen printed on 330gsm Fedrignoi paper.
The image is from the latest twist to Pure Evil’s epochal Nightmare Series, in which the nightmares of three iconic 20th Century American artists have been depicted. Haitian-American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat is the subject of this print.
The text on the left of the print reads ‘KING SAMO’, referring to a graffiti tag used on the streets of New York City from 1977 to early 1980. The tag has been primarily associated with Basquiat, but it was originally used by Basquiat and his friend Al Diaz who worked together under the pseudonym SAMO. When their friendship came to an end, the SAMO project also ended with the epitaph ‘SAMO IS DEAD’ sprayed on the walls of Soho..
