bronze coin, antique gold finish, comes in a custom fitted airtight coin case."One side of the coin portrays their UVM roots, and shows Slade Hall, where one of their 1st official gigs as Phish was played, and where Page's first official gig with the band went down. The other side of the coin symbolizes the end of Phish at Coventry, VT and depicts Newport airport, as well as some other symbolic images" The Maze / Bowie Coins were debuted at the Las Vegas run in April of 2004, and the entire 1st run of the coins was sold out by the end of the 8 show run in June of 2004. The Maze / Bowie Coin is 1.75" in diameter, and 3 mm in thickness, and it is made out of a nickel-pewter alloy. The 1st run of coins was numbered at 300, and when Trey pulled the plug just before the June Tour, I decided to have a 2nd run of 300 Maze / Bowie Coins minted, and also determined that it would be a good idea to make a "commemorative coin" to symbolize the wonderful career that Phish had for over 20 years! This is when I came up with the idea for the UVM / Coventry Coin...
My original plan was to create a new Phish Coin for every new tour that the band announced, but that plan was derailed by the May announcement that it would all end in Coventry. The UVM / Coventry Coin was minted in a one-time run of 500 coins. They are made out of bronze, and are also 1.75" in diameter and 3 mm in thickness. The UVM / Coventry Coins were debuted on the all-to-brief August Tour, and were as well-recieved as the Maze / Bowie Coins!
The idea behind the UVM / Coventry Coins was to symbolically "bookend" Phish's career with one side of the coin representing the beginning of Phish, and the other side representing the (unfortunate) end of Phish. I chose Slade Hall @ UVM as the representation of the beginning of Phish because they played many early shows there, and Page's 1st gig with the band was at Slade Hall, and in my eyes, that is when the Phish we all have come to love truly began to take form. Obviously, Coventry would represent the end of Phish, so that was a no-brainer!
The Phish Coins have sold steadily since Phish ended, and I bring them to most shows that I attend to try to continue to spread the love. While there are many phans out there who still have not gotten these Phish Coins but may want to get their hands on one (or both) I have finally decided to create this website. (AD)
