This is KAWS' oldest print and the first he ever released. New York-based artist KAWS started making his name by subverting and reworking advertisements. While much of his work takes on a brightly colored, cartoon-ish aesthetic, even taking on the form of limited edition toys, this piece is reminiscent of his redesigned billboards and posters, it is a portrait he has tampered with. This work is similar to the later "Kate Moss, White Gloves" print, although we do not know the depicted supermodel's name.
